Michael Kozok's AUSTRALIAN JOURNEY

As a child Michael Kozok longed  to explore the world beyond the borders of his native Poland.

He cycled across Europe as a teenager, then hitch-hiked through Africa and Asia, and trekked un-motorised through South America - from the southern most tip to the very north of the continent.

But his true dream was to reach Australia to explore its vast deserts.

In 2022 he set himself a bold self challenge: to cross Australian 4 deserts, climb 7 mountains & reach 4 points of the compass of the dry & empty continent, without using any form of motorised transport.

He’s now visited 156 countries and trekked thousands of miles. And made Australia his permanent home.

‘A mix of Roberto Benigni in Life is Beautiful and Tom Hanks from Castaway, Michael Kozok is the 'crazy Pole' who spends 14 months walking across Australia... to show his seven year old son what you can do with very little. A very touching story of a remarkable family. Dir. Simon Target © Handheld 2026’.
